According to the ACNielsen On Line Consumer Opinion Survey, the most
large inquiry of this type, conduced twice a year in 38 nations of
Europe, Pacific Asia, North America, Latin America and South Africa,
about one third of the consumers interviewed in the four regions has
declared to don't believe in the benefits of functional products with
vitamins or integrators added. But biological products are bought for
health reasons and over two third of the interviewed think that these
are more healthy for them and for their children. European seem to be
the most aware of the biological products benefits and consider them
helpful for protecting the environment too. About one fifth thinks that
biological products help to protect the environment and 12% declares
that one of the main reason for buying is the animals care. The big
barrier for buying is the price for more than one third of the
consumers in the Pacific Asia and for 40% of europeans and north
americans, in addition to the lack of availability. Between the variety
of the biological products eggs (32%), vegetables (29%) and fruit (28%)
are the products that attract more the consumers while poor interest,
at the moment, is reserved to drinks, charcuterie and tea.
Source of information: ACNielsen; Mediterraneating, 29.11.2005
