The Italian Agriculture deputy-minister inaugurates SANA in Bologna (IT)

Mipaaf, the Ministry of agricultural food and forestry policies, informs  that the Deputy Minister Andrea Olivero opened today the 28th International exhibition of organic and natural (SANA) in Bologna. "Organic is the turning point of sustainability -said the Deputy Minister- the sector has now reached its maturity and contributes significantly to the national environmental policies. The data of the sector are in line with the National Strategic Plan objectives: the growth of the organic cultivated area has reached a million and a half hectares, while sales, steadily growing, indicate a further consolidation of the domestic market. Export trends are also very positive.  The organic ‘culture’ fascinates more and more consumers, conscious and aware about their food choices”.

Data (ISMEA-Nielsen) about Italian organic products sold in supermarket chains  in the first half of 2016 indicate as well an increase of + 20.6% over the first half of 2015 (+ 20% in 2015, + 11% over the past 5 years). SINAB data report (December 2015) a  + 8 % increase of organic operators: almost 60,000 holdings between producers and processors and, to a lesser extent, also an increase of the importers of organic products. The cultivated area (in December 2015) under organic farming reached 1,492,579 hectares, with an increase over 2014 of 7.5%. 12 % of the Italian UAA is now cultivated with the organic agriculture methods.
