New rules on import of organic products from 2017 (IT)

As of 1 January  2017 new control measures included in the TARIC to identify  imported  organic products from conventional ones  will come into force across the European Union. It is a major step forward for the harmonization of the level of controls, applied by several Member States on imported organic products.

Italy was the first Member State to introduce specific additional codes for organic products: it was  the leading country for the improvement of controls on imports of organic products into the EU.

This important innovation, together with  the introduction into the European system Traces of the electronic certification of imported organic products, is another pillar for the prevention of fraud and forgeries, for higher  protection of European organic productions.
