11th meeting of MOAN - Mediterranean Organic network in Jordan (IT)

The annual meeting of MOAN, the Mediterranean Organic Agriculture Network coordinated by CIHEAM, the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari, takes place from 17 to 20 September in Amman. 20 representatives of the member countries take part in the event,  ministries of agriculture with their  organic farming units.

The network, launched in 1999, aims to develop organic farming in the Mediterranean basin, creating working partnerships, encouraging exchange and cooperation between public and private stakeholders, making organic food and its benefits known. In addition to the annual thematic meetings in the network member countries, MOAN organizes specific seminars and international conferences; supports the creation of national sub-networks; produces scientific papers and periodic reports on organic farming in the region.

This year, the thematic seminar, in collaboration with IFOAM UE, focuses in particular on group certification pursuant to the new EU Regulation which will come into force on 1 January 2021. The event was opened by CIHEAM Bari director, Maurizio Raeli and by the CIHEAM secretary-general, Plácido Plaza, together with the Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Omar Al Razaz, and the director of the  IFOAM EU, Eduardo Cuoco. During the meeting a Mediterranean task-force on group certification will also be set up.
