The "OrganicXseeds" database is now also online for Denmark (IT)

In order to make the availability of organic seeds more transparent, the implementation of an electronic database is mandatory for all EU Member States pursuant to Regulations (EC) 834/2007 and 889/2008, but it will also be with the new Regulation (EU) 2018/848 which will be applied starting from January 2021.

"OrganicXseeds" is an interactive database developed by FIBL which provides information on the availability of seeds and organic seed potatoes. It is used by farmers, organic seed suppliers, control bodies and national competent authorities. The database can be easily implemented in each country, using different languages. It was designed to provide a single point of contact for farmers, seed suppliers, national authorities and their respective organic control bodies. The offer or not of organic seeds published in the database constitutes the legal basis for the granting of derogations for the use of untreated and conventionally produced seeds by the competent control bodies and authorities.

Denmark also will now use “OrganicXseeds” as the official availability database for organic seeds starting 1st January 2020. A contract has been concluded with the responsible ministry (Ministry of Environment and Food - The Danish Agricultural Agency). As a result, seed suppliers can now also offer their seeds in Denmark and farmers in Denmark can view the seed offers and apply for derogations if necessary.

Denmark had its own database before, but has now switched to “OrganicXseeds”. The data base is thus used in a total of eight European countries, in addition to Denmark also in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom and Ireland.
