San Marino, acknowledged by EU as a member state for organic products (IT)

The European Commission has officially equated the San Marino (small Republic existing in the north of Italy) supply chain to that of the other EU member states. It will therefore pass from a third country to a Member State, and its products will be able to adopt the famous green leaf, the official Community logo used for certified organic products. In such a way, farmers and processors working in the organic sector will be able to export their product freely to European Union countries. This decision concludes a long and complex diplomatic process begun in 2017. A decree ratified last 22 September updates the legislation on production, labelling and marketing of organic products, making the country compliant with the European rules on organic. A recognition that will allow San Marino to also access to the specific EU action plan, with the aim of achieving the "European Green New Deal" with 40 million euro available for its promotion. A strategy taken up by the small Republic to achieve the objective of 25% of organic agricultural land by 2030.
