The ups and downs of international organic trade: how is this possible?, by Gerald A. Hermann

Gerald Hermann, a pioneer in the organic sector (he was president of Naturland and IFOAM, today he is director of Organic Services, and is known worldwide as one of the leading experts in the organic agri-industry) publishes a reflection on the sector that has been shattered by various scandals on national and international levels. The bigger the scandals, the more dramatic the consequences for the countries of origin, which brings about huge shifts in international commodity flows, as import and export figures indicate.

COP and GREX, 13-15 July: the Mipaaf note

The last COP (Committee on Organic Production) and GREX (Expert Group on Organic Production) meetings took place on 13, 14 and 15 July in videoconference.

Imports: the new regulation (EU) 2020/786 amending regulation (EC) n. 1235/2008

Now published in the Official Journal of the European Union, series L 190 of 16 June 2020, the Implementing regulation (EU) 2020/786 amending and correcting Regulation (EC) No 1235/2008 laying down detailed rules for implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 as regards the arrangements for imports of organic products from third countries.

Imports from third countries: the new Reg. (EU) 2020/479

The Official Journal of the European Union, series L 102/4 of 2 April 2020, published the Commission implementing regulation (EU) 2020/479 of 1 April 2020 amending Regulation (EC) No 1235/2008 laying down detailed rules for implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 as regards the arrangements for imports of organic products from third countries.

USDA announces changes in its regulations for organic products

During a speech at the Global Ecological Products Exhibition (GOPEX), Jennifer Tucker, Deputy Administrator of the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS)- National Organic Program announced that the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) was going to modify the regulations of the National Organic Program. The goal of these new rules is to create greater responsibility and visibility; reduce exemptions for handling certifications; implement a requirement for all imports to be certified, and improve supervision of accreditation and certification.

Imports from third countries: the new Regulation amending Reg. (EC) No 1235/2008

The Official Journal of the European Union, series L 8/18 of January 14, 2020, publishes the new  Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/25 of 13 January 2020 amending and correcting Regulation (EC) No 1235/2008 laying down detailed rules for implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 as regards the arrangements for imports of organic products from third countries.

The document includes some amendments regarding the certificate of inspection (COI) and  Annexes III and IV of the Regulation (EC) No1235/2008.
