Russia: new standards for organic farming

Vladimir Putin has signed a new law regulating production, processing, storing and transportation of organic produce in Russia. The decree bans agrochemicals, pesticides, antibiotics, growth stimulators and hormones.

EU: the new Regulation on organic production is published

The Regulation (EU) 2018/848 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 May 2018 on organic production  and labelling of organic products and repealing Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 was published on 14 June 2018 in the Official Journal of the European Union No. L150. Many details of the regulation still have to be developed through delegated and implemented acts.

The Regulation shall apply from: 1 January 2021.

Organic farming: new EU rules adopted

On 22 May the Council adopted new EU rules on organic production and the labelling of organic products.

The new regulation encourages the sustainable development of organic production in the EU and aims at guaranteeing fair competition for farmers and operators, preventing fraud and unfair practices and improving consumer confidence in organic products.

The new regulation will enter into force on the third day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union and will apply from 1 January 2021.
