Vice-Minister Olivero inaugurates 'Sana' in Bologna

Deputy Agriculture Minister Mr. Andrea Olivero inaugurated today the 29th edition of SANA, the annual International Exhibition of Organic agriculture organized by Bologna Fiere. Organic agriculture continues to represent a leverage for Italian agriculture and sustainability of productions, and the latest data confirm the strong growth trend in 2016.

France: organic farming continues its growth

According to Agence Bio's data, organic agriculture in France, at the end of 2016,  overcome  1.5 million hectares, 16% more than at the end of 2015, that is more than 5.7% of total UAA. The average of the holdings in conversion remained high in the first months of 2017. Compared to the end of 2015, producers rose to 32,326 (+ 12%), while downstream operators (transformers, distributors and importers) reached 14,859, 10% more.

USA: steady growth in 2016 of the organic industry

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced new data indicating the organic operators continue to grow domestically and globally, with 24,650 certified operators in the United States, and 37,032 certified operators around the world  (certified at USDA standards).

Germany: organic farming continues to grow in 2016

BOLW - Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft Bund eV, has published data on the organic farming sector in Germany for the year 2016. The German organic surface increased in 2016 to 90,000 hectares, reaching 1,185,471 hectares, + 8.9 % compared to 2015. The number of organic farms in the same period grew by 8.6%, with 2,119 new operators, for a total of 26.855 operators. Always in 2016, the German organic market as well saw sales increase by 9.9%, with a total turnover of 9.48 billion euro (in 2015 the volume was 8.62 billion).
