FAO: in March the Global Symposium on Soil Biodiversity

The Global Symposium on Soil Biodiversity (GSOBI20), ‘Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity’ will be a science-policy meeting, held over three days, from 10-12 March, at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome, Italy. Jointly organized by the UN FAO and its Global Soil Partnership (GSP), the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS), together with the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD) and the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative (GSBI).


Soil4life - an alliance pact with farmers on sustainable land use

The new Soil4life soil protection project coordinated by Legambiente and, among others, partners like CREA, ISPRA and the Milan Polytechnic has been  launched in Rome on 6 December.

Soil4Life is a European project that involves not only Italian partners, but also French and Croatian ones. Its aims is to promote sustainable land use as a strategic, limited and non-renewable resource. A goal in line with the commitment signed by the European countries at the United Nations adhering to the global sustainability objectives (Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs).


Organic farming improves soil physical properties: the results of a long-term study

A recent study published in  Agronomy Journal found that after 40 years of farming, organic agriculture improves physical characteristics of soil compared to conventional farming.
