<div style="text-align: justify;">Summer 2011 was a hard season
for the Italian fruit sector, with very low and uneconomic quotations. A real drama for many
farmers, now pushed to find more profitable productive niches. Organic farming is quoted among
the most interesting ones. Organic productions have higher quotations on the market, and producers
can couple them with initiatives like agritourism, processing of products and valorization of the
territory. The president of Confagricoltura, the Italian big landowners association, Mario Guidi,
very much believes in the multifunctional interaction: 'There is -he says- an overall 'chain' going
from organic to rural hospitality, from catering to environment and biodiversity. The organic
farming sector is becoming more and more professional, attentive to the agri-ecosystem, producing
with fully respect for nature balances'. All the data confirm Mr. Guidi words. The
author of the article reports many of the positive data published by SINAB (see for instance ISMEA
data on consumptions growth), ending with the statement that combining biodiversity and extensive
productions will follow the increasing request of consumers for healthy and organic food.
