challenge of establishing a certification body in Bulgaria. It is
difficult for personnel with little experience in inspection and
certification to revise well developed and established forms. In 2002
all organisations involved in organic agriculture, as well as the
Accreditation Service and the Ministry of Agriculture were invited for
an initial workshop to introduce the concept, discuss the structure and
identify interested shareholders. In 2003 “Balkan Biocert” was founded
with the aim of offering certification services in Bulgaria and
