Controls in organic farming production and processing: IFOAM EU proposals

<div align="justify">IFOAM EU&nbsp; has developed its position
on the improvement of the control system in organic agriculture. In a letter to the European
Commission the Federation forward different proposals, like improvements in monitoring and import of
organic products,&nbsp; the accreditation of Control Bodies in third countries, how&nbsp; the
controls based on risk analysis&nbsp; are conducted in the various Member States. <br>The main
reason for the development of such a position was the fraud detected in Italy in 2011 and the report
of the European Commission that followed this case (Ref. No. COM (2012) 2121, published&nbsp; on 11
May 2012). The report concluded that 'The Commission recognizes that the control system can be
improved and will work in this direction&nbsp; with the Member States.'<br></div><br><a href="http://www.ifoam.org/about_ifoam/around_world/eu_group-new/positions/Pa…
