Equivalence for organic products between USA and EU has, since 1st of June, become a reality, that is the agreement under under which EU and US recognised the respective certified organic products.
The agreement foresees that products certifed as organic by USDA – United States Dept. for Agriculture and by European Union can be sold and labelled as organic either in the US or in the EU. The products have to be certified by the specific bodies accredited by USDA or by the EU: in such a way EU organic operators do not need a specific and additional certification to export their productions in the US and viceversa anymore.

COMMISSION <a href="http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2012:041:000… REGULATION (EU) No 126/2012 of 14 February 2012

U.S. – European Union Organic Equivalence Arrangement
<a href="http://ec.europa.eu/agriculture/organic/files/news/Website_FAQs_EU-US-e… Asked Questions and Answers

Source: Sinab
