Feeding Knowledge Program (FK): the Network EXPO 2015

Feeding Knowledge Program (FK): the Network EXPO 2015

FEEDING KNOWLEDGE PROGRAM (FK)is an International Network on Research and Innovation for Food Security. The program has been developed by CIHEAM-MAIB, in
cooperation with Politecnico of Milan, in the frame of 2015 Milan Universal Exposition, whose theme is: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. FK will be part of the intangible legacy of Expo Milan 2015. Main idea FK Program has been built on the idea that knowledge development and sharing are the main tools to identify concrete solutions for food security that really meet the needs of developing countries. The Program is thus based on the idea that to achieve sustainable development, everyone on the planet should have access to healthy, safe and sufficient food. Objectives FK Program is aimed at:
• Establishing of a Mediterranean network of experts focused on research, innovation and transfer of knowledge for food security;
• Creating an International Technology Platform, useful to share ideas, information and research in order to develop new synergies;
• Supporting policy makers in the elaboration of programmes and policies;
• Creating 12 National Local Points to develop and enlarge the scientific Network at the local level and assisting National Extension Services in the transfer of knowledge to operators and farmers;
• Identifying Best Sustainable Development Practices for food security (BSDP) in the frame of Expo Milan 2015 through a process of collection, recognition, evaluation and dissemination.
Five priorities for food security All FK activities are developed through five research and innovation priorities for food security:

Sustainable natural resources management;

Quantitative & Qualitative enhancement of crop products;

Socio-Economic Dynamics and Global Markets;

Sustainable development of small rural communities in marginal areas;

Food consumption patterns: diet, environment, society, economy and health.
White papers for food security One of the main outcomes of the Programme is the drafting of five “white papers” (one per each thematic priority). The papers identify
the state of the art of research and give some recommendation in line with the main needs of the Euro-Mediterranean region. The outcomes of the “white papers” will be
presented to the international community and policy makers at the Expo of 2015. Target Area The Project is first focused on the Euro-Mediterranean region (Albania,
Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian National Authority, South-East Europe countries, Tunisia, Turkey). After 2015, programme activities
will progressively involve other regions of the world.

Useful links:
International Technology Platform : www.feedingknowledge.net
https://www.facebook.com/Fee… href="https://twitter.com/FeedKnowledge">https://twitter.com/FeedKnowledge</a… CIHEAM-IAMB
