One of the most important international trade shows on fruit and vegetables, MACFRUT is the long-awaited event for producers, operators and Italian and foreign marketing operators. Besides dealing with international issues, the trade show will pay great attention to the strategies to give a new momentum to ''made in Italy'' fruit and vegetables. The 2008 edition – which is the 25th – will take place from Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th April (opening hours: 9:30am-7:00pm) on a 30,000 sq.m. surface, with 700 exhibitors. The importance of Macfrut is witnessed by the certified figures of the 2007 edition: more than 21,000 visitors, most of which were sector operators. An increase in the number of higher-level foreign visitors from 70 countries was also registered (23% of the total, that is +7 compared to 2006, and 19% of all exhibitors). This year you will find two main novelties. The first one also stems from the comprehensive activity carried out to boost internationalization. The 2008 edition has been prepared through various missions abroad, from India to Egypt, from Spain to Morocco (in some cases with group stands alongside Italian companies exhibiting at Macfrut), as well as by means of further actions to contact foreign realities. In this respect, a first novelty is worth mentioning: the Macfrut International Project, aimed at setting up a core group of Italian companies exhibiting at Macfrut and working in various branches of the fruit and vegetable industry, which can participate in all missions abroad and represent the main features of our production and technology. The project is coordinated by Macfrut. A specific exhibition area is dedicated to these companies, as Roberto Della Casa has announced. The second important novelty is the fresh-cut produce show. The so-called 4th range, that is freshly cut, washed and ready to eat salads is a relatively new sector which is sharply growing in Italy too – said Giuseppe Battagliola, AIIPA Director of fresh-cut produce sector. In 2007 there was a great increase: more than 88,000 tons accounting for an expenditure of € 693 million, that is +3.2% and +6.3% respectively, compared to the previous year. At the 2008 edition, more than 300 bilateral meetings will be held between Italian operators (from exhibiting companies) and members of the registered foreign delegations, according to the needs of each party. Furthermore other meetings will be organized by Bre Archimede with Latin American companies. The 20th Agro Bio Frut (Show of new technologies and seeds) and the 18th Trans World are once again on the agenda. An impressive schedule of conferences is also envisaged. The following are worth mentioning: the conference taking place on Thursday morning and focusing on the Euro-Mediterranean partnership with some Ministers from Mediterranean countries; the conference on Thursday afternoon dealing with the port system, the one held on Friday on fresh-cut produce and the one taking place on Saturday and focusing on new opportunities in Italy arising from CMO reform. Last but not least, further meetings and conferences will be organized by universities, companies and consortia.
