Minister De Girolamo at SANA: "Sustainability is a key element for the future, the Italian organic is a positive example"

<div align="justify">'I come to this conference with the firm
belief that the issues we will discuss today are fundamental. They give me a great opportunity for
reflection, because&nbsp; sustainability and respect for the environment are responsibility of all,
and we have the duty to think about future generations. In this perspective Expo 2015 takes on even
greater importance, and the organic sector can not be absent'. <br><br>The Minister of Agriculture,
Food and Forestry Nunzia De Girolamo started in this way her intervention in Bologna at the
conference ' Towards EXPO 2015 – Feeding the planet in a sustainable way – Innovation in production
and consumption patterns for the right of food for all', which anticipated the opening of the SANA
2013.<br>'The event in Milan won't be a fair, but a great showcase for the entire country, and an
opportunity to reflect and raise awareness on crucial issues related to food as the problems related
to malnutrition, poor eating habits and the food waste'.<br>'The challenges we face are many – said
De Girolamo – and the organic sector has given us an important example to keep in mind. It has been
able, with its growth,&nbsp; to break the prejudice that the concept of sustainability is opposed to
productivity and competitiveness'.<br>'Another great urgency to deal with – emphasized again the
Minister – is the fight against falsifications, fraudulent phenomena affecting our agricultural
productions. The Italian organic sector, for its strong success on the market, is not exempted.
There has been, however, a response from the institutions, the operators, Control Bodies,
associations. I think, for example, about the interventions to introduce, in agreement with the
Italian Customs Agency, a specific code for organic products imported from Third countries, or the
project of computerization of procedures to obtain the status of organic operator and foster
transparency. All this and more today, now that organic has become an important opportunity,
especially in a time of crisis like the one we are through'.<br>'My commitment and my wish is to
meet future challenges with the contribution of all the sector stakeholders, to give back the
possibility to dream to the generations to come. To achieve this goal, we must focus on quality,
which is included in the DNA of our agriculture and of our Made in Italy'.<br></div><br>SOURCE:
