<div style="text-align: justify;">As well as in other EU countries, organic farming is growing fast in Bulgaria too, supported by the good reorganisation of the Organic Farming Unit in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. By the end of 2011, the farms registered as organic were 1,054, that is 30% more in relation to 2010. Always in 2011, the "organic" land had reached 26,600 ha. . Organic cereals cultivation doubled, but also cultures like wall-nuts, hazel-nuts, almonds and chestnuts increased, along with apples, apricots and plumbs, followed by flax, sunflower, rape and sesame. 2011 brought new organic (but also conventional) cultivations of artichokes and olive trees, plants which are not typically Bulgarian. Only the cultivation of forage was decreasing: 1,000 ha were cultivated in 2011, against 3,800 in 2010. The growth included organic animal husbandry (+ 250% of livestock population in relation to 2010), with a subsequent increase of diary products (+150% yogurt and +20% cheese). Last but not least, also organic honey (well appreciated and requested by international markets) increased: +14% on annual basis, trespassing 74,000 tons. <br></div><br><br><br>Source: ICE Bulgaria<br>
