We publish the report "ORGANIC FIGURES 2012", below available for download.

The document was presented yesterday at SANA in Bologna, on the occasion of the conference ""Numbers tell the story of Italian organic farming" .

The Italian organic sector is still vital, as the data indicate: new growth, in 2012, of areas cultivated with the organic method (+ 9% in comparison to 2011), after three years of stagnation; increased number of certified operators, including farmers, processors and importers. Figures continue to be among the highest at world level: the figures of the areas dedicated to organic agriculture put Italy at the sixth place, in the global ranking, while the number of organic farms gives our country the eighth position (about 3% of total farms at world level). The dynamism of the sector is also reflected in the sustained development of consumption. Such growth (+8.8% of the household spending in the first half of 2013) in times of crisis and in a domestic context of negative trends for food consumption, appear as a real rarity.
It is even more significant the latest update of the Panel Ismea Gfk-Eurisko, recently reporting a further increase in organic products consumption compared to the dynamics of the 2013 first semester.

<a href="http://www.sinab.it/share/img_lib_files/2329_bio_in_cifre_2012_def.pdf"… FIGURES 2012 (in Italian)

SOURCE: SINAB
