The EC has prepared a new regulation proposal on “Organic production – targeted updates and simplification (Reg. (EU) 2018/848)”.
This initiative updates rules on organic production in order to:
- provide clarity and certainty for businesses on the import of organic products under the equivalence scheme, following a ruling of the Court of Justice of the EU
- extend the recognition of non-EU countries’ equivalent organic standards beyond the current deadline of 31 December 2026 to avoid trade disruptions
- simplify certain rules in a targeted way to make EU organic production more competitive and reduce the regulatory burden.
