The BIOL Prize - Prize for the best organic extra virgin olive oil- was established by C.I.BI. – the Italian Consortium for Organic - in 1996 and is awarded every year on the basis of the evaluation expressed by an international panel of olive oil experts. The best oils selected as the winner of the EXTRAGOLD medals are published in a BIOL Guide available on the official website of the event. The guide illustrates the sensorial profile of each sample analyzed. The BIOL Prize Organizing Committee includes the President of C.I.Bi. or his delegate, the supervisor of the tastings and the coordinator of the International jury.
The BIOL Prize has been promoting since four editions BIOLNOVELLO, an exhibition restricted only to organic extra virgin olive oils of the new season, that is, for the Mediterranean countries, produced before 15 November of each year. BIOLNOVELLO allows producers to promote oil at the most strategic and effective moment for marketing as well as providing an effective indication to families shopping for their home purchases. In addition, participation in BIOLNOVELLO allows a monitoring of the quality of the samples and an assessment of the quality of the product in order to make any corrections to the process of production and storage of samples before participating in the BIOL Award.
