Global organic area continues to grow – Over 71.5 million hectares of farmland are organic

The latest data on organic farming worldwide have been presented by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and IFOAM – Organics International at BIOFACH, the world’s leading trade fair for organic food, in Nuremberg, Germany.


EUROSTAT: regional organic farming in the EU

On the occasion of 'World Food Day' (16 October), Eurostat published a news about the share of organic farming at EU regional level.

Regional diversity in the EU is present in agricultural production methods, such as in the extent of organic farming. There is only one region where over one half of agricultural land is farmed with organic production methods, while 13% of the regions had less than 1% of their area under organic farming in 2016.


SANA 2019: the documents presented during the SANA Observatory

The first day of the Sana organic Fair in Bologna saw the presentation meeting of the “Sana Observatory on organic farming”, promoted by BolognaFiere and curated by Nomisma with the patronage of Federbio and Assobio. As every year, the main issues of the sector were presented, together with analyses of the structural and market data, and an in-depth analysis of the export dimensions of Italian organic products and two specific focuses on the Japanese and Russian markets. All the annexed documents are in Italian.


“Bio in cifre 2018 - Facts and figures 2018”: the English version

We publish the  English version of the annual SINAB report including the data on the Italian organic farming sector "Bio in Cifre 2018". The document contains chapters on structural data, market data and also on imports from third countries.

Spain: organic surface increases by 8% in 2018

In 2018 the Spanish organic UAA reached 2,246,474.5 hectares, an increase of 8% compared to the previous year: an announcement by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA),which published  the anticipation of sector data for the past year. In 2018, the number of organic operators reached 44,282, 6% more than the previous year, of which 39,505 were producers; 4,627 processors; and other retailers, importers and exporters.


Organic production in Sweden in 2018: a steady growth

The Swedish Board of Agriculture has published the official 2019 agricultural statistics that include data on organic farming. The data show an increase in organic UAA of 58% over the last 10 years. At the end of 2018 the organic UAA in Sweden had reached 20.2% of the total, with 609.104 ha (they were 385.064 in 2009). The Swedish government intends to reach 30% of the organic UAA in 2030.


FIBL and AMI: new data on European organic sector

At BioFach, the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), the Agricultural Market Information Company (AMI) and partners presented the 2017 data of the European organic sector . The organic market in Europe continued to grow. In 2017, it increased by almost 11% and reached 37.3 billion euros. Many of the major markets enjoyed double-digit growth rates. Strong growth also of areas, producers, and markets.

Almost 15 million hectares of farmland are organic in Europe

Bioreport 2017-18: organic farming in Italy

It is now available BIOREPORT 2017-2018, a publication which analyzes the evolution of Italian organic farming since 2011.

The data reported in the work indicate how the Italian organic sector continues the process of consolidation and strengthening in the context of the national agri-food system and of the international scenario. Italy is number six  in the world ranking of countries producing organic food by surface area and market value.


“Bio in cifre 2018” - Italian organic figures: anticipations

A special event at SANA was the tool to present the structural data of the Italian organic farming sector elaborated by SINAB, with the support of ISMEA related to the trend of the organic market

The data in annex refers to organic surfaces and operators in Italy as of 31.12.2017. Also available the presentations given at the event. All the documents are in Italian, but "Bio in cifre 2018" will soon be available also in English.
